Summary:
Data Exchange can be configured in several ways – one of which relies on the presence of a record code to help identify the data that follows.  When there is no record code, the error message: “Invalid or missing record code” can be generated during execution during the Load step of the process.

Details:
When the system is designed to rely on record codes, a valid record code must appear on each line of data in the source file.  In most instances the record codes are present and appear to be OK.  If you believe your source file is complete, it may be that there is a blank record at the end of the file.  To determine whether or not this is the case, display the source file in a word processor – Notepad works well – and go to the bottom of the file.  Use the arrow down key to see if there is a record at the end of the file that contains no data.  If so, the system will try to interpret that as another row of data and usually the first piece of data (depending on design criteria) will be the record code.  And a “blank” is not a valid record code.  If this is the case, simply delete the blank record, save the file, and reprocess the file.

Resolution/Workaround:
Delete the blank record at the end of the source file.
