Error: Access to the registry key is denied
Product: BizBroadcast
Applies to: All
Article Type: Error
Summary:
After installing BizBroadcast on a Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008 environment, the user gets the following error when starting Excel:
Access to the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Legacy’ is denied
Details:
BizBroadcast must be able to write to the registry on the first run of Excel after installation. The user opening Excel does not have sufficient permissions to write to the registry. This can occur if the user does not have sufficient rights to write to the registry or the installation is being performed on a Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Server 2008 operating system which have greater restrictions on permissions to write to the registry.
When installing on BizBroadcast the user performing the installation and starting Excel to test the installation must have administrative rights. If the installation is being done on a Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008 environment, the installation and first launch of Excel must be done as the user named “administrator”. It is not sufficient to belong to the administrator’s group.
Resolution/Workaround:
Uninstall BizBroadcast then reinstall and test the installation as a user with administrative rights or as the user named “administrator”.
